The scope of Cannabis is vast and diverse. This is driving the global research community to brand its image as a miracle drug that helps in treating many ailments, and fatal diseases. Medicinal Cannabis is a controversial topic especially in Ireland, as the HPRA does not recognize Cannabis as having any medicinal value. Therefore any claims made in this article have not been reviewed by any governmental agency.
The miraculous benefits of CBD (cannabidiol), one of the many cannabinoids present in the Cannabis Hemp plant, is widely known around the world. However, it is not the only cannabinoid that has potential health benefits.
Firstly I want to clear up the confusion around Hemp and Marijuana, as this is always a tricky topic to differentiate and understand. Firstly, Hemp and Marijuana are two different strains of the Cannabis plant. Hemp is high in CBD and only has trace amounts of THC, which means the plant is legal to sell in Ireland and many countries around the world. Marijuana, on the other hand, is very high in THC and low in CBD. As THC is illegal this means all Marijuana plants are illegal. This article will focus on Hemp and the cannabinoids found in Hemp.
Exploring the Cannabinoids Found in Cannabis
There are over 130 cannabinoids found in the Hemp plant including, CBD, CBDV, CBDa, CBN, CBG, CBC, and less than 0.2% THC—to name a few. They all interact synergistically with the body receptors to induce effects within our brain and nervous system.
Here is the brief overview of some of the cannabinoids present in Dr. Hemp Me’s Full Spectrum Cannabis Oil.
CBD or cannabidiol is the most prominent cannabinoid found in Dr. Hemp Me’s Full Spectrum CBD oil. CBD is a non-psychoactive compound that has a broad range of applications in the field of healthcare and medicine. Contrary to belief CBD will not get you high in fact if you are already high it will counteract the effects of THC. So if you or a friend gets too high sometime, try some CBD to bring you back down.
Although CBD is the most prominent cannabinoid found in Dr. Hemp Me Full Spectrum CBD Oil it is not the only cannabinoid. Next, we will explore other cannabinoids found in our oil.
Cannabidiolic Acid or CBDa is another form of CBD that is believed to have health benefits. CBDa is one of the primary cannabinoids found in the stem and leaves of the hemp plant. To attain CBD the cannabinoid CBDa has to go through a process called decarboxylation. It is after this procedure that CBDa becomes CBD. Decarboxylation is the process in which hydrogen and carbon dioxide are removed from the CBDa through heating. CBDa and CBD have similar molecule structures and therefore have similar benefits. Both CBD & CBDa interact with the endocannabinoid system, however, a lot more is know about CBD. CBDa is one of the newly found cannabinoids and a lot more research is needed to truly understand this wonderful cannabinoid.
CBDV or cannabidivarin is a homolog of CBD (cannabidiol) that improves the anticonvulsant effects of CBD. Like CBD, CBDV is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid. Funnily enough, we all know the side effect of getting the munchies when smoking Marijuana. CBDV may actually work as a munchy repellent. Future potential for this cannabinoid is in weight loss but a lot more research is needed.
CBN is most beneficial as a sedative. According to Steep Hill Labs 5mg of CBN is like taking a 10mg dose of diazepam. This can be beneficial for persons who are looking for a sleep aid with little to no side effects. The amount of CBN in Dr. Hemp Me Cannabis Oil is too small to act as a sedative but its inclusion is hugely important for synergistic effects of the oil.
CBG or cannabigerol is also one of the active compounds found in the Cannabis plant that is most widely known for its anti-bacterial effects. As a non-psychoactive cannabinoid, it has both inflammation-reducing and pain-relieving effects and shown to have antibiotic properties.
CBC or cannabichromene is a rare non-psychoactive cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant, usually found at low levels <1% when present. Its practical use has shown to have subtle mind calming effects and can act as a natural pain killer in the body. To get the full benefits of cannabis oil you need to have all these aforementioned cannabinoids within the oil. This is what is known as the entourage effect or full-spectrum. See our CBD FAQ section for more information on full spectrum oil.
Like most cannabinoids outside of CBD and THC little is know about CBC and a lot more research is needed.
THC or Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol is one of the highly-recognized cannabinoids found in the Cannabis plant that is responsible for causing psychoactive effects. It stimulates parts of our brain and activates our nervous system, causing the release of dopamine. This ultimately creates a sense of well-being and euphoria.
As per Irish regulatory bodies, 0.2% or less THC is allowed in CBD-based products. Anything more than this percentage is illegal and companies who are found guilty of keeping the percentage a little higher than this point are heavily penalised. Dr. Hemp Me Full Spectrum Cannabis Oil does not contain more than 0.2% THC to comply with Irish regulation on Cannabis CBD oil products.
All Dr. Hemp Me Cannabis oil products are full-spectrum with CBD being the most prominent cannabinoid. For Cannabis Oil to be of the highest quality it needs all the cannabinoids to work synergistically together in what is known as the ‘entourage effect’. For instance, a popular CBD product is CBD Isolate, however, when consuming the isolate you are only getting the benefits of CBD and only CBD. To get the most out of CBD it needs all the other cannabinoids and terpenes to work together in synergy.
